Lisbon, Alentejo and Comporta: A Slower Portugal

Portugal

8 Days

Lisbon -> Monsaraz -> Comporta

Alentejo unfolds slowly, and Comporta finishes what Lisbon and Monsaraz begin. This week moves from the city's tascas and tuk tuks, into the plains and castle villages of Eastern Alentejo, and finally to the dunes and rice fields of the coast. It is built for travelers who want space, flavor, and a rhythm that never rushes.

Day 1

An Evening in Lisbon's Kitchens

Arrive in Lisbon and ease into the evening with a guided food tour through the city's historic neighborhoods. An expert local guide leads the way from tucked away tascas to a final proper dinner, tracing Lisbon's culinary identity one course at a time.

Day 2

Tuk Tuk Streets and a Proper Tasca Lunch

A morning tuk tuk tour winds through Lisbon's steepest hills and hidden viewpoints, covering ground a walking tour never could. Lunch follows at a beloved local tasca, the kind of unfussy, generous meal Lisboetas actually eat. By afternoon, the road turns east toward the plains and vineyards of Alentejo, arriving in Monsaraz as the light softens over the Alqueva lake.

Day 3

Clay and the Family Cellar

A hands on pottery workshop in Sao Pedro do Corval opens the morning, one of Iberia's most storied pottery centers. Lunch follows at a family run winery in Reguengos de Monsaraz, a long, unhurried meal among the vines.

Day 4

Border Castles and Open Plains

A morning hot air balloon ride lifts guests above Alqueva and the surrounding plains, followed by a route through the border castle villages of Mourao and Vila Vicosa. Lunch is a slow, Alentejo classic built around black pork, bread, and local olive oil.

Day 5

West to the Wild Coast

Leave the plains behind for the Atlantic, driving west into pine forests, rice fields, and dunes. Arrival in Comporta brings an easy first afternoon, a beach walk, and sunset drinks on the dunes.

Day 6

A Day at Melides

The day belongs entirely to the beach at Melides, one of the coast's quietest and most beautiful stretches of sand. Lunch is simple and seaside, with the afternoon left open for sun, swimming, and the sound of the Atlantic.

Day 7

Rice Fields by Bike

An e-bike ride traces the flooded rice fields around Comporta, a gentle, scenic morning through one of the region's most distinctive landscapes. The rest of the day is unstructured, reserved for the beach and a final relaxed Comporta dinner.

Day 8

Departure

A final relaxed morning in Comporta before the transfer back to Lisbon for onward travel, closing a week that moved from city, to plains, to sea.
