Weekend Trip: The Best of Seville
With just a weekend in Seville, you can still savor the city’s best: from tapas at Mercado Lonja del Barranco to the grandeur of the Catedral, the Moorish beauty of the Alcázar, and the charm of Triana and Plaza de España. A perfect taste of Andalusia in 48 hours.
With its beautiful weather, amazing architecture, and rich history all set along the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Seville is a favorite Spanish city for many. Behind every corner of this gorgeous city are Andalusian gems covered in colorful tiles, so if you only have a weekend in Sevilla, you will have a hard time choosing what to see and what to skip. That being said, it is enough time to see the major sights and get a taste of the Andalusian capital.
Mercado Lonja del Barranco
Start with an appetizer of Sevilla’s flavors at Mercado Lonja del Barranco, a stylish gourmet food market on the riverbank down from Plaza de Armas bus station. With food stalls offering everything from international cuisine to Andalusian classics, it’s a perfect first stop for lunch.
Catedral de Sevilla
Just a short walk away is the largest cathedral and the third largest church in the world, the Catedral de Sevilla. Inside, Pierre Dancart’s gilded altarpiece shines across the space, and you’ll also find the sarcophagus of Christopher Columbus. Tickets are best booked online.
Alcázar Palace
Steps from the Cathedral, the Real Alcázar is one of Seville’s finest examples of Moorish architecture. Its intricate interiors make it a must-see, and tickets should be purchased online to avoid queues.
Plaza de Toros
Known as “The Bullring,” this baroque arena is one of the country’s most iconic sights. Even without attending a fight, the architecture and atmosphere make it worth a visit.
Triana
Cross the Puente Isabel II to reach the former gypsy quarter of Triana. This neighborhood offers a lively local atmosphere, authentic tapas bars, and a glimpse of Seville’s traditions.
Alameda de Hércules
Once a red-light district, this plaza is now a fashionable hub of nightlife. Spacious terraces invite you to enjoy drinks, and trendy bars keep the evening lively.
Plaza de España
On Sunday morning, head to Plaza de España, with its sweeping half-moon building and Renaissance Revival style. Surrounded by a moat, it’s an ideal place to sit, enjoy breakfast, or even rent a boat before leaving the city.
