Unbe-leaf-able Fall Destinations in Spain

August 29, 2019

With the summer crowds thinning and the temperatures cooling, autumn is one of the best seasons to vacation in Spain and explore the country's spectacular landscape while the leaves change color. Here are some of the most beautiful fall destinations in Spain to add to your wish list!

Val d’Aran

This popular ski destination has a dramatic landscape with picturesque villages which make it a paradise for hikers in autumn. The area is also ideal for bicycling and even as a wellness destination!

Penedes Wine Region

Autumn is the perfect time to try Spain’s answer to champagne, cava - produced in the Penedes wine region. Less than one hour by car from Barcelona, consider combining a day trip to Penedes with Montserrat!

Montserrat

Montserrat means different things to different people. To some it is a monastery but then to some others it is a natural park, to some it is a mountain and for others it is all of these things. When visiting Montserrat, you will be amazed by its unique beauty and spirituality - there is something special in everything from the stunning basilica to a flower on the side of a mountain path - and what's a better time to visit than when the weather cools down and the touristy crowds retreat?

Cartagena

If you are trying to extend your summer, Cartagena is where you need to be. This Spanish town has been seeing the temperature rise to 20°C (68°F) in November and has over 2,000 years of history! An added benefit is the jazz festival that takes place through most of November.

Barcelona

In Barcelona, fall is the new summer. With the searing, sweat-stained, sunburned days of summer softening into more comfortable conditions you can explore all that the Catalan capital has to offer without melting into the baking pavement like an abandoned gelato. On top of the beautiful autumn weather, amazing architecture, museums, and rich history, there are several fall festivals in Barcelona, such as Catalonia’s ‘National Day’ on September 11th, La Castanyada at the end of October, and All Saints Day on November 1st.
