Akelarre, Arzak and Martín Berasategui are three top-notch restaurants that have earned the prestigious three Michelin stars! Arzak was named as one of the World's Top 50 restaurants in 2016.

Being located right on the coast, San Sebastian is home to some seriously fresh seafood. Some of the Basque Country's most iconic cuisines, including bacalao pil pil (cod fried in olive oil until the skin becomes crispy and the juices emulsify), pecebes (goose barnacles), squid in its own ink, and kokotxas (cod or hake cheeks), are some mouthwatering examples!

San Sebastian has its own style of tapas, known as pintxos. Pintxos are usually small pieces of bread, topped with different ingredients like Spanish ham, prawns, anchovies, cheese, chorizo or croquettes that are held together with sticks.

Furthermore, this city is home to some of the best fresh food markets with seasonal and local produce. San Martín and La Brexta are the two most well-known ones with some of the top restaurants in the city sourcing their ingredients from there.

Pastel Vasco is a spongy-like pastry wrapped around a vanilla or almond cream, sometimes with cherries. On the other hand, Pantxineta is made from puff pastry filled with custard and topped with almonds.
