Flute Symposium Itinerary
April 1st - 6th, 2019
Day 1 – Monday, April 1st
Meet midday for transport to a charming Catalan masia (countryside farmhouse), our center for the next three days. The symposium begins with an orientation lunch, warm ups and musical introductions, followed by individual and chamber music sight reading. Finish the day with drinks around the pool and a welcome dinner.
Day 2 – Tuesday, April 2nd
Get the day started with a rustic Catalan countryside breakfast, prepared for you at the masia. After breakfast, start with warm up exercises and then enjoy a full day of master classes, coaching and rehearsals. Lunch will be provided, and then enjoy some free time at the beautiful masia. In the early evening we will have a workshop on how to sight-read with perfection (or close to it!) followed by dinner.
Day 3 – Wednesday, April 3rd
Today's activities will be about saying goodbye to performance anxiety and tension free playing. Practical tools will be discussed to help resolve your performance stress and play your best. We will also have a workshop on how to play with expression, and wrap up the day with having you perform a solo for the group. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided at the masia.
Day 4 – Thursday, April 4th
Wake up to your final meal at the charming Catalan farmhouse, followed by a master class. We will then say goodbye to the masia and travel to a charming village on the outskirts of Barcelona for an incredible lunch. Once back in Barcelona, we´ll get settled in apartments. In the evening you'll meet a local flute traverso maker and learn about local musical heritage and an ancient Catalan flute- the Flabiol. Dinner will then be on your own and you´ll have time to explore Barcelona.
Day 5 – Friday, April 5th
We'll begin the day by meeting the Barcelona Flute Orquestra for a group rehearsal in preparation for a concert to be performed this evening. We will then visit the Museum of Music in Barcelona, followed by a group lunch. After some free time, we'll come together again for a masterclass on the Flabiol and the traditional music of Catalonia. This will include both theory and practice. The group will then break for dinner, before meeting at our concert venue, the Crypt of the famous Sagrada Familia. We will then perform collaborative concert with the Barcelona Flute Orquestra.
Day 6 – Saturday, April 6th
Morning final individual and chamber music rehearsals and coaching followed by lunch. Evening concert at a charming local courtyard garden followed by farewell party.
